A Subject Shot on West Main Street Road Brings Mercy Flight Medics to Rural Clarendon

Overnight, Mercy Flight medic and squad units were toned to a gunshot-wound call on West Main Street Road in Clarendon, with law enforcement already on the scene.

At about 2:09 AM, Genesee County fire dispatch toned out Mercy Medic 2 and Mercy Squad 1 to 3755 West Main Street Road in Clarendon for “a subject with a gunshot wound”, a location dispatch placed between County Line and Kelsey Road near a brewery. The page noted that law enforcement was already on location before medics arrived.

A shooting is rare news in this stretch of the GLOW counties, where the overnight wires more often carry lift assists and farm-road deer strikes than gunfire. The scanner traffic established only the gunshot-wound dispatch and the law-enforcement presence; it did not establish the victim's condition or any suspect information before the thread closed.

A Report of Fire at the Clarence Center Methodist Church Sends Crews Into the Woods Behind It

Yesterday evening, Clarence Center companies were toned to the United Methodist church on Clarence Center Road — then found their fire was somewhere out in the trees behind the address, down a gas line.

Yesterday at about 9:32 PM, Amherst Fire Control put out a report of a fire at 9750 Clarence Center Road, the Clarence Center United Methodist Church. As units arrived, command reported the fire was not at the church itself but “north and east of this address”, somewhere down the gas line that crosses Clarence Center Road.

Command called for the first engine with Rescue 7 and a UTV to follow, working to establish a meet point for the crews pushing into the brush, and moved all responding Clarence Center units to a working channel. The traffic, carried on Amherst Fire Control — which dispatches Clarence's companies — resolved as a brush or woods fire rather than a structure in danger.

The Great Late-Night Donut Summit, Settled in Three Transmissions

No pizza, but the station held the line on quality.

Late yesterday, at about 11:11 PM, the Amherst Fire wires turned briefly culinary. One voice asked whether a crew had pizza on hand. The answer, with a firefighter's instinct for standards: “Negative, but we do have donuts”. Pressed on whether the donuts were Paula's, the reply came back without hesitation — nothing but the best. On Halloween night, that is the kind of readiness the public deserves.

Halloween's most routine emergency gets its own deadpan dispatch.

Yesterday at about 7:02 PM, Depew's Engine 6 keyed up with a request that could only come on the thirty-first of October: “Could you send me a car for a kid who lost their family to the usual location where we are over here”. Dispatch didn't miss a beat — there was already an officer up there, and he'd be sent their way. A child reunited, a family relocated, all handled with the calm of crews who have clearly worked this holiday before.

Editor’s Note

Halloween night ran loud across Western New York: packs of teenagers in the streets of Amherst and Lancaster, a run of domestic calls that turned on knives and a shotgun, and scattered fires from a reported blaze at a Clarence Center church to an overnight structure fire on James Street in Buffalo. The night's gravest note came from the far edge of the region — a subject shot on West Main Street Road in rural Clarendon, with Mercy Flight medics and law enforcement converging. By morning most of the afternoon's chatter had gone cold, but the wires carried the familiar October mix of missing kids, costumed disturbances, and the ordinary grind of EMS runs.
