West Seneca · Harlem Road Park · Strong-Arm Robbery

A Pack of Teenagers Beats a Woman With a Bat in a West Seneca Park and Steals Her Shoes

Seven to ten juveniles, described as 15 to 17 years old, attacked a woman at Harlem Road Park yesterday evening and made off with her shoes.

Yesterday at about 8:13 PM, West Seneca police were called to Harlem Road Park for a strong-arm robbery in which a group of roughly seven to ten juveniles, estimated at 15 to 17 years old, attacked a woman with a bat and stole her shoes.

The size of the group and the use of a bat lifted the call well above an ordinary park disturbance. It landed on a night when West Seneca officers were already juggling other robbery traffic — a separate hold-up at a Dollar General on Seneca Street less than an hour earlier, where a suspect was ultimately taken into custody.

An 18-year-old male driver with a mouth contusion drew an EMS request, while a Jeep Compass sat disabled in the middle of the intersection, blocking the center and left westbound lanes. Officers set up a search grid — one unit told to “start at Z Barts on Camp Road and work their way towards Route 20” — as dispatch checked the availability of Air One. The driver was in custody, with at least one more black male still being sought on foot.

Editor’s Note

A violence-heavy Buffalo overnight — gun calls off Hertel and West Ferry, domestics across the East Side, a DOA on Trowbridge — gave way to suburban surprises at the edges of the window. In West Seneca, a pack of juveniles beat a woman with a bat for her shoes; in Hamburg, a stolen car T-boned another vehicle and plowed into a Starbucks before its occupants scattered on foot. Orchard Park crews dammed a cement truck bled over onto the roadway, Chautauqua County stood up its airport alert team for a small plane in distress, and Cattaraugus deputies spent part of the night searching for an autistic 15-year-old who walked off toward a Dollar General.
