Car vs. Building on Sainsford Lane: $50,000 in Damage, No Injuries, Building Department on Scene
Vehicle ended up separated from a structure between Sheridan and Tavistock just after 3 p.m. — Amherst Fire and AMR worked the call alongside the town building department.
Amherst Fire dispatch went out at 3:11 p.m. on what the air described as a transferred injury accident at 48 Sainsford Lane, between Sheridan Drive and Tavistock Road, with AMR rolling at 15:11.[1] Main-Transit 9-2 marked on location at 3:14, and within minutes a unit told the air there were “no injuries, vehicle separated from the building, significant damage.”[2] The Amherst building department came up on location to look at the structure,[3] and the fire inspector was looped in.[4] The damage estimate, dropped on the air just before 3:30: $50,000 to the structure.[5] By 3:30 the file was closed at “clear, $50,000 damage”[6] — an unusual outcome for a vehicle-into-building call, with no one transported and a residential block on Sainsford left to clean up the mess.

At 3:44 p.m. Amherst Fire dispatch sent a crew to investigate an odor of natural gas inside the house at 10210 Transit Road, between Smith Road and Dana.[10] Snyder Fire was rolled in on the joint dispatch.[11] Around 16:19 the file cleared on the air: “Broken gas went to the dryer. National Fuel is on.”[12] But within minutes Amherst PD added a wrinkle the fire side hadn’t mentioned: “It originally came in as an odor of natural gas... Now the tenant is calling us and believes that the landlord shut off the gas for the unit. It looks like it’s an ongoing issue, a landlord-tenant dispute.”[13] National Fuel cleared the house; the lease drama did not clear the air.
